Blue John Paper Weights

Paper weights can be constructed with a variety of caps. Most have Blue John caps but the example on the right is composed of Blue John with calcite with small pieces of Derbyshire galena (lead sulphide). Galena (PbS) is derived from the Greek name galene meaning "lead ore". paper weights - blue john on a limestone base
Each paper weight is constructed from a fossiliferous limestone base with a Blue John cap. The example on the left has unmodified Blue John and fired Blue John. Firing Blue John alters the colours to add a touch of brown to the stone.

Paperweights come in 2 sizes.
