This is a very high quality bowl. Made from 5 vein Blue John Stone, of outstanding quality, it has been polished to a degree rarely seen in Blue John objects. The high polish radiates the exquisite beauty of the delicate and deep banding associated with 5 vein Blue John Stone.

The Blue John Stone has been slightly fired by heating the stone to change its colour. This process was done predominately in late 1800's to early 1900s and is repeated here by Edward Fisher. This firing has changed some of the stone to slightly mauve and purple.
When there was an abundance of Blue John the miners made fires on Treak Cliff and they would put several pieces of Blue John on the fire for a few days before returning to claim the best pieces.

This is a very special piece. It is very delicate with
good combinations of colours and banding
There are debates about which veins of Blue John this is made from. Some investigation is required to define the exact vein. However, this is a good example of the blue and yellow that is found in Blue John.
The name Blue John derives from the French Bleu Jaune meaning Blue Yellow and this is a good illustration of those classic colours.
Currently on display at Chappells Antiques and Fine Art, Bakewell.
