Blue John Stemmed Goblets

There are probably no more than twenty Blue John stemmed goblets available world-wide and half have been made by Edward Fisher.

Dimensions of the Blue John goblet on the right

  • 93mm diameter at the top
  • Bowl is 45mm deep
  • Overall height is 158mm
  • The Black Marble base is 85mm square and 30mm high

This is a very delicate and evenly banded blue and yellow bowl which sits on an interestingly turned stem. Both the bowl and stem of this goblet are made from the Cliff Blue vein of Blue John Stone.

Dimensions of the Blue John goblet on the left

  • 100mm diameter bowl at the top
  • Bowl is 50mm deep
  • Overall height is 170mm
  • The Black Marble base is 82mm square and 30mm high

The beautiful goblet's bowl is made from dark banded Cliff-Blue vein Blue John. The stem is tapered with a centre piece of 5-vein Blue John. It is currently on display at Chappells Antiques and Fine Art - King Street - Bakewell.

Dimensions of the Blue John Chalice on the right

  • 82mm diameter at the top
  • Bowl is 46mm deep
  • Overall height is 130mm
  • The base is 80mm diameter

This is a proper chalice made from the Cliff Blue vein of Blue John Stone. The middle part of the stem has been fired - a specialised technique used to change the colour of the blue john stone. An outstanding feature of the bowl of this chalice is the thinness of the walls. Creating a bowl with very thin walls requires expertise and craftsmanship. Blue John stone is a rock which is difficult to work at the best of times but Edward Fisher, with his many years experience of working Blue John stone, has produced his thinnest walled blue john vessel.
